The Clash in New York – BBC Rebroadcast
Not for the first time BBC Six Music comes up trumps, I love the fact that the BBC realise they have an archive that’s worth it’s weight in gold but more importantly they share it. This time it’s a very special broadcast that the BBC are allowing access to again for a limited time. The proviso for the original show was the Shea Stadium concert with The Who but the 90 minutes focus on so much more.
Hosted by Don Letts, the longtime friend of the Clash did a wonderful job of chronicling via his memories, interviews and archive music footage the truly unique relationship that The Clash had with New York City. 1979-1982 must have been an excellent time to be a concert going music fan in New York. In addition to enjoying the ‘new wave’ of English bands, the local scene one of the most exciting and vibrant that any city has ever scene. The Clash and New York shared a special relationship, everyone I know from New York who was a fan has explained it to me as being entirely unique. The BBC broadcast does a great job of explaining much of this chemistry so put aside some time before the links are removed!!

How weird, Tim! As you know I have been spending a lot of time thinking about this very topic the past few months, and now this.
Too bad I am incapable of benefitting from this (dial-up=no video or audio downloads) — it sounds so wonderful!
Is it possible that anyone out there can record it on a disc? (I am completely clueless so forgive me if that’s absurd).
This sounds like the show I’ve been waiting a lifetime for! And I was at 4 of their NY shows, so it holds an especially dear place in my heart when the subject comes up.
I envy those of you who have already seen it!!!
