Extreme sunshine and a tired out old household here today and then suddenly out of the blue one of my favourite parts of writing the blog takes place. An unsolicited email appears in my inbox, Ivan S writes to tell me he has uploaded and included a link to his Super 8 footage of The Clash live in Detroit from March 10, 1980 playing ‘Safe European Home’ and of course, it’s spectacular. The power and energy just can’t really be done justice with my keyboard.
In the best old school ransom note style he’s also promised that if the video reaches 100,000 views he will release more. So my hope from you is that you not only enjoy the video beneath but share it with every living soul that you know needs to see it – there are far more than 100k of us as you know. Most enticing in the ransom note is that there is more to be added and I’ll do my best to find out more about that.
Ivan only asked if I would mention Peace Jam’s One Billion Acts of Peace in return to showing the video which I’m more than happy to do. This is a joint venture by Peace Jam and Google with the following goal:
“Between now and December 31, 2018, average citizens around the world will work together to create one billion high quality projects addressing the root causes of the most important problems facing our planet — crucial areas like rights for women and children, access to clean water for all, and alleviating extreme poverty”
You can learn much more via the link above and this isn’t a movement for the corporate big boys but for normal people like you and me. Get involved and read more and again if you can’t take part please spread the word.
My huge thanks to Ivan for getting in touch, and please play loud and share in the hope that we’ll see more.
The Clash ‘Safe European Home’ – Detroit March 10, 1980
Thanks as always for reading and more soon, the outage in updates was due to the loss of our sweet old pet cat George and I’ve just not felt like writing the past few days, but she would have loved hearing this at full volume I’m sure. Take care – Tim
