The Clash earn stamp of approval

So sorry for lack of posts, I’ve got a bag of excuses but I’m not going to bore you with them. I hope all is well and Clash fans are enjoying the weekend. I’ll be back to daily or more posts starting tomorrow. Until then one pretty exciting piece of Clash news that was forwarded to me by Wayne in Leicester (that rhymes with Chester for my favourite mispronounced city name by Americans). As Jimmy Carr says “No, I don’t have an accent, you’re just not used to how things sound when they are pronounced properly”

The news is that The Clash are amongst 10 artists being honoured by The Royal Mail with their very own postage stamp! Ten of the most iconic album covers ever by British artists are featured in a series being released in 2010. I assumed it would be the entire Clash collection plus some Strummer and Big Audio Dynamite, turns out it’s going to be London Calling only. That said I still think it’s a measure of just how much of a benchmark album it was. Nice to see Blur on the list also. For all the information visit pitchfork. If you are in the UK send me a Clash adorned postcard when these are printed! I own 7 of the 10 albums on the list, hmmm.

  3. Thanks for posting the story Tim. That comment about Leicester made me laugh. It was like my home city was named with the sole aim to confuse anyone outside of UK who tries to say it lol. Thanks again for the excellent blog. Really enjoying reading it. I’ve shared the URL of the blog on my Facebook and Twitter.

Tim or anyone, just wondered has anyone read the book “Out of Control” The Last Days of The Clash by VINCE WHITE,I’ve read every other book on them but been put off this one by A;The price, about £17 and B;the content. If it’s been done well it would be a fascinating read about the least documented period of the band but on the other hand it might just be crap.If anyone can help with a thumbs up or down I would really appreciate it…THANKS DAVE

I’ve not read it yet – but I’ve seen many reviews. I think it’s worthy of a read and despite the fact Vince White displays a lot of malice it apparently offers a lot of valuable insight into the final years of the band which frankly became a circus.

    Has anyone read it?
