The Clash Cup Matches 7 & 8 – plus first results

Hello All – the quest for the best Clash songs continues….but first we do have final results from the opening match ups.

Police On My Back defeated Hateful 23-19

This always looked to be a tough call and so it was – Hateful might get readmitted due to good support. Not as close was the other result:

Should I Stay or Should I Go over First Night Back In London 30-10

This was always as expected and I think the 25% of the vote for the other track was mostly due to years of saturation of the winning song. I’ll add a link page to the whole tournament this week – for the time being please visit this page for current results on all polls.

I do however need your help with voting on the next match up – and remember you have 2.5 days to vote in each tie.  Without additional delay Matches 7/8 pair the following songs.

Sex Mad Roar    vs   Corner Soul

Which Clash Song Stays in The Clash Cup? Round 2 match 12

  • What's My Name (44%, 31 Votes)
  • Jimmy Jazz (56%, 40 Votes)

Total Voters: 71

If anything illustrates the fact that the first round might not be the most exciting then I think it’s the above. Two tracks from Cut The Crap will

Travis 266x300 The Clash Cup Matches 7 & 8 plus first results

Deniro as Travis

probably be expelled by earlier efforts. Stranger this have happened, by unless Bernie Rhodes can jam the ballot box for We Are The Clash I’d say we know which two songs will be sticking around.

Corner Soul is a bit of a rarity as Ellen Foley provides some backing vocals to Joe Strummer. It’s another song I return to often as I like the flow of the lyrics and Joe’s delivery. More guest vocals also on Red Angel Dragnet as Kosmo Vinyl does his best voice over work – and another Paul Simonon vocal performance is up for your approval.

Anyway…‘I know a fine thing when I see it’ – more info on the songs that progress. Happy voting! Oh yeah, forgot to mention Arsenal won again (sorry Glasgow) Tim.
