Good morning or evening depending on your location and thanks for dropping in to the blog. Trust all is calm in your part of the world or a bit crazed for all the right reasons. I must share this video with you so that the next time your partner, family or friends tell you that you are bordering on obsessed with music it will vindicate you as being quite sane compared with this bloke when he sees a train. If you do nothing else today you really should watch it, if you fail to laugh blame me.
A few tidbits of information I wanted to share before getting back to work. First of all the important news that single day tickets are now on sale for the Strummer of Love festival on August 17,18,19. This might be an ideal way to see the acts you’d specifically like to catch without shelling out for the entire 3 day event, coinciding with that Strummerville have announced the daily list of acts to appear. Day tickets for either Friday, Saturday or Sunday are on sale now for £50 via this link at the SOL site. As far as topping the bill it’s Billy Bragg and Seasick Steve on the 17th, Dreadzone along with The Pogues and Alabama 3 on the 18th with the festival being closed by Mick Jones/Justice Tonight band following on from Badly Drawn Boy and KT Tunstall on the final night. Full details over on the left, you can click to zoom. I have no idea how many single day tickets are on sale, I can’t imagine it will be that many so act quickly if you might be making it down.
On the previous post I spoke about the forthcoming Joe Strummer tribute night coming up in San Francisco later in the month. With it being not only August but the 10th anniversary year there are other events well worth being aware of. San Antonio, Texas is the location to be stateside the same weekend as Strummer of Love as the ‘4th annual tribute to Joe Strummer and The Clash’ will be taking place that night at Boneshakers. Headed up by Clash tribute act Clampdown they have done a special job rallying the troops down in Texas each summer and this year promises to be no exception. Rather than pine for Somerset and the big festival next week I suggest you get down to this one if you’re within hitchhiking distance of San Antonio as a splendid night is guaranteed. Here are the specifics:
Boneshakers – 306 Austin Street, San Antonio
Friday August 17th, 21:00 (21 and over), admission $5
Thanks again to the lads in San Antonio for getting this together, if anyone wants to submit a report or photos this year please let me know. If that wasn’t enough the following night sees another tribute in San Marcos, Texas as ‘Viva Joe Strummer’ takes place at the Triple Crown. Further evidence that Texas remains Clash country for those in the know. More details on the Clampdown Facebook page, but here are the specs on that one:
Viva Joe Strummer
Triple Crown – 206 N Edward Gary, San Marcos
Saturday August 18th, 21:00 (18 and over), admission $5
Featuring Clampdown, Beer Gnomes, Motel Ball Band
There you have it, two good reasons to leave the ranch in Texas over one single weekend. I’ll be back soon, but please share via Facebook and Twitter as you might just inform someone who didn’t know. Tim
