Rat Patrol, Jail Guitar Doors, and the CIA
Another hot and sunny day ~ in fact our bug exterminator chap was just visiting and we talked about rats, he mentioned some days he feels like he’s
on Rat Patrol and with that the first Clash reference of my day (and I didn’t even make it). Rat Patrol from Fort Bragg was the the working title for what became Combat Rock. I think they should have used it in the end…
On to other things; I plan for the blog to be a central point for Clash related news in a more current format. Unlike a traditional website where content can essentially become old the blog allows you to put fresh fare on the table. Dependent on the number of posts I find I’ll offer news posts every 2-3 days typically. I’ll focus on all Clash related news feed and headlines as well as give credit to blog articles worthy of your time.
So on the agenda this morning, great news for the Jail Guitar Doors project. I’ll blog soon about JGD but it’s a great campaign to provide guitars to jailed
inmates in the UK as part of a music rehabilitation program. The supremely brilliant Billy Bragg is at the helm of the project and Mick Jones has also lent time to it. The news is that JGD is showcasing a slot at this years Glastonbury festival which is great for exposure of course. It’s no secret that Joe Strummer loved the festival which makes this so much more suitable in my eyes. There is a Joe Strummer memorial stone at the site (yes I’d love a photo if you have one!) in recognition of his support.
Bragg will be presenting acts from the JGD project, if you’re in the UK please send me a report if you are able to go and I’d be happy to post it.
Billy Bragg says: “It’s great that Strummerville are hosting a performance by Jonny and Leon. I named my music in prisons initiative Jail Guitar Doors in memory of Joe Strummer, and the people at Strummerville have been very supportive of our work since the off.”
A short C.I.A (Clash Influenced Award) is handed out to Al Barr from the Dropkick Murphys who gives props to The Clash in this interview posted today 6.24 Cheers Al, you make the first line on my soon to come C.I.A. page.
This day in history, sadly I don’t see a Clash concert to reference so we’ll make do with it being Mick Jones birthday tomorrow. Have a happy one Mick ~ I’ll see what Carbon Silicon are up to for my next post.
That’s it for now – have a good one, Obama’s scheduled to solve health care tonight on the news; I wish him well although I think they need to schedule a month long broadcast to tackle that bastard of a problem.
Tim
