Sunday night as I write after a ‘far too warm for the time of year’ day that leaves you wanting to consume cold beverages which only will make Monday that much more difficult so you don’t and then wish you had anyway.
It’s a busy time for Clash fans and I’ll do my best to keep it fairly current both here and on the other site Clash Blog News. If you’ve been watching carefully you’ll know that the media feeding frenzy in the UK the last week or two has seen more exposure for The Clahs than we’d normally see in a year. It’s a bit odd to be truthful but well deserved, I’d be lying if I didn’t mention that it aches that Joe isn’t part of it. What can you do?
Worth noting is that the UK album charts were announced today (I still pine for working in a record shop again) and that ‘Hits Back’ entered the UK chart at 13, in old school Clash style that will be as high as it gets but we’ll wait and see. A good result though for the new release I’d suggest. Even more impressive is that Sound System entered the chart at number 52! I have no data on such things but for a box set (and a not inexpensive one at that) to enter the charts that high is really amazing. Good news for the band, I hope their cut is much larger than Sony’s.
If you’ve been watching the wires you’ll know that Paul, Mick and Topper have also been making press appearances in Paris last week and the photo below is from that press conference. The show now continues in motion over to New York this week. I’m sad to confirm that it will be just Paul and Mick headng to NYC but excited to share a few details nonetheless. Let me place an asterisk before completing this sentence as I’m still waiting for more details but I believe the New York trip is to last a few days but at present I’ve only got information for this coming Thursday Sep 19.
The first is a limited engagement and you have to be one of those who moved over to satellite radio a few years ago as SiriusXM are hosting a town hall Q&A session for listeners with Mick and Paul on Thursday afternoon evening – 1221 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020. The ‘sweepstakes’ for entry was for satellite radio subscibers only (existing pre Aug 30) and has now closed. I assume if you have the service you may have heard something about it on the air? If you have more details than me which wouldn’t be diffucult please fill them in below. No word as to whether it will be broadcast but surely it will but not having the service I can’t tell you more than that.
Later that day Jesse Malin is hosting a party for them at Niagara 112 Avene A, New York and you don’t need me to tell you that this is the home of the Joe Strummer mural that was removed for building improvements last month. Jesse will be DJ and it’s set to kick off at 10pm after the unveiling of the new mural. Word is that they’ve been invited along but I can’t make any promises – it certainly seems likely and they won’t be on New York time due to travel. So I expect some of you to be there. In fact if you head over to his FB page you can see a new video of work commencing on the revised mural.
I’ll hopefully have more updates about New York during the week or shout at me if you hear them first.
