Morrissey bitter over a cup of lager, Mickey Rourke on The Clash and more
Hello again….what’s going on then? I’m excited about the Carbon Silicon album, second albums are always interesting and when it involves Mick Jones more interesting than usual. I’m curious to see if the band’s sound is going to expand from what I thought was a really good debut (but some great songs prior to the last post were left off the album sadly). Only 5 days til we find out – I’m still trying to find a way to donate to the band or a cause they select and will advise.
Not a related note, what did you think about Morrissey and his sulk in Liverpool? If you didn’t hear he got hit on the top of his barnet with a plastic cup of beer – as a result; concert stops, Mozz storms off and thousands of scousers get to be angrier than usual. Video is below, but come on, thousands of fans have paid 30-40 quid each to see you and probably many have traveled a good distance. I’m in no way condoning what the idiot in the audience did but consider your options Mozzer….
Stop the song – turn the house lights on full. Insist security grab the arsehole who tosses a plastic mug of beer at you – and have him booted out of
the venue. Have a moan, have a gripe but lighten up a bit. I’ve had beer spilled on me and lived to tell the tale. By continuing the show and humiliating the imbecile who did it would have surely been a better tribute to your fans. I’m writing this as a Smiths fan from the very early days – I’ve spent a lot of money going to see you play, I’ve got friends who’ve flown all over the country to see you, you have a remarkably loyal fanbase and you punished them all that night due to one idiot. You’ve put out some horrible albums, you vanished for years and your fans still adore you. For someone who I thought is bemused by adoration but appreciates his unique place I’d expect more, but you just strut off stage and say bollocks to the remaining 99.99% in the audience. Goes to show how resilient The Clash (and the rest) were back in the day. Christ I’ve seen James and Blur been deluged with beer cups and just got on with the job. This isn’t the RSC Morrissey, yeah there’s a tosser in your audience but what did you achieve by marching off? Anyway – rant over. Charmless man….and I know many may disagree with me on this.
Nice article on Viv Albertine in Spinner by the way. In it she speaks of The Clash and Mick Jones in particular.
“We were each other’s first loves and we’re still pretty close now as people. He looked like one of the New York Dolls when I first met him [with] long black hair. Viv Albertine on Mick Jones
Finally, check out this new interview with actor Mickey Rourke in The Daily Mail (groan) – he discusses The Clash amongst other topics.
Canadian visitors to the site (we get a lot — I thank you) should know ‘Strombo’ (apparently he’s your equivalent to John Peel – if so that’s a good thing!) - in this interview he discusses a variety of topics including Joe Strummer. Having just been introduced to him 20 minutes ago – he looks interesting – must explore….Back soon – Tim
