I’m not sure how credible these really are but there seems to be a few people being labelled Joe Strummer’s ‘twin’ or ‘the second coming of’. I’ll let you decide but how do you compare – and what period Joe? 1976? 1981? 1989? Joe generally looked pretty cool throughout (except cut the crap era) where his overall look seemed to get relegated right along with the music. So let’s see what you think.

Leading off is the front man for a Scottish band I’ve been listening to a lot recently Glasvegas. Even if you disagree about the Strummer cloning take a listen to their debut album. James Allan is the man in question and I can see the point, though based on the clothing and hair I’d have to say it’s somewhat intentional. When I was younger I was told I looked like 80′s genius Lloyd Cole but never sought out my own commotions. There’s a thin Glasgow connection running through this. So – make your decision about James Allan beneath.

Next up we change gears to the world of football, and not especially good football at that. The Brazilian midfielder Elano (most recently at newly cash rich and Oasis loved Manchester City) now plies his punk rock warlord, attacking midfield trade in the friendly streets of Istanbul for Galatasaray. I’m less convinced about this one and remember I didn’t initiate the comparisons. Perhaps around the eyes?

Then let’s wrap up this nonsense with a trip to the frozen ice rinks of Canada for NHL player Daniel Briere. I know this is all very subjective but I think the comparison on this chap is from a fan that would have liked to have had Joe Strummer scoring power play goals for his local team. Hockey shirts are weird too, absolutely giant with occasional great logos (this not being an example of one). The shirt looks more like something Mick Jones would have worn when B.A.D. were making The Globe.
