Don Letts to serve up another Strummer special on BBC 6 Music
Hello all and cheers for stopping in at the blog. You may have already caught this news over at the Strummerville site today but I didn’t want to take a chance that you may not have. If you happened to be reading the blog as long ago as a year back you might remember Don Letts hosted a special one-hour show on BBC 6 music dedicated to Joe Strummer and featuring his music both during and post The Clash.
The happy news is he doing it again this Sunday Dec 19th at 0:00 GMT (which if I’m not mistaken means midnight on Saturday evening but check the website to be sure). That would be 7pm on Saturday evening if you’re on the East Coast in the US. I was so excited to read he’s doing this again as last year’s show for some reason sticks in my mind as being particularly enjoyable. It might be partly based on my continued love of radio but there are far worse things you can do with 60 minutes of your time than listen to Don Letts and of course Joe. The energy and very personal memories that Letts brought to last year’s broadcast are particularly unique to him of course and I also feel that he has never been want to sugarcoat things but also has a fantastic grasp on the early days of punk but still seems so vibrant today. Obviously if you are in the UK you can hear it on the old-fashioned wireless but better still BBC streams all of their radio online so you can catch it live wherever you may be and I do think that there should be an archive on the site as well the next day. Here is the link for your listening pleasure to the Don Letts broadcast *the ‘listen live button is in the top right corner
Pencil it in either way cos I can guarantee you’ll enjoy it, please tweet this one if you twitter! Right then, back to work for me and I’m starving. Also – we had fog today in the desert… doesn’t happen often here so kids walking to school looked like they were looking for the special effects team to walk out of the alleyway. Cheers – Tim

Our special effect in London tomorrow morning will be 2" snow…..then ongoing travel chaos….Oh how the Canandians must marvel at our incompetence !!
The Strummer tribute has been removed from BBC I-player… did anyone record it and is posted anywhere? I'm gutted that I didn't get to hear it.
