Don

That's interesting stuff indeed. I never realised that other bands used it as a strategy now (title track/opening track/title) and in the case of The Clash it's the opening two words also. Wonder if that makes it unique?

How about "Search and Destroy" by The Stooges. Great opening track. Also I'd like to say many bands (cough Green Day cough) stole and copied the idea of opening the album with a song of the same title making the first song kinda a call to arms at the same time. How many albums can you think of that open with a song of the same title making the opening song a way to show you there's more righteous Rock & Roll to come. MC5 almost did this with Kick Out The Jams but it does not open with the song of the same name. Raw Power and Fun House of The Stooges almost did it too. I feel the bands that copy this idea do an awful job at it and even try to copy it by having a very memorible album cover and album name and also an album name that says something bold and brave (American Idiot for example). If you're gonna borrow The Clash's idea of being a prolific Rock & Roll band with radical song/album names and what-not you should bring some sort of originality to it, and not just steal The Clash's thunder! (no pun inten.)

One I forgot in that initial rush was 'Sympathy For The Devil' from 'Beggar's Banquet'....Not a bad opener !

Right..I'm agreeing with your suggestion that it's a contender (though it's not London Calling!)

some good ones for sure Pete....thank you. Stone Roses might deserve being a contender although having only made one good album whatever opened it was in with a shout!

Couldn't really disagree with 'London Calling' as the opening track choice, but 'Janie Jones', 'Safe European Home', 'Magnificent Seven' and even 'Know Your Rights' aren't bad either !

There's so much to put forward....What about 'Thunder Road' from Springsteen's 'Born To Run' or 'Suspect Device' from SLF's 'Inflammable Material' ? Maybe 'Blue Suede Shoes' from Elvis' eponymous album or '1969' fron 'The Stooges' debut. This list is endless, but that's the joy of music, isn't it ?

'Sweet Home Alabama', 'Blitzkrieg Bop', 'I Wanna Be Adored'.....'Baba O'Riley' wasn't bad either !!

More to follow probably !
